Overview
The ETDI Heavy Bus Vehicle driving course combines theory lessons, simulator sessions, road assessments, parking tests, and practical classes to thoroughly prepare you for your final test.
The ETDI instructors collaborate with each learner to enhance essential skills such as risk management and strict compliance with traffic laws.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants for Heavy Bus Vehciel Driving License include individual customers, citizens, and residents of Dubai who are Over 21 years(the legal age) and medically fit.

Process
- The customer applies for the service through the RTA website using a valid Emirates ID.
- The customer's identity is verified by sending an OTP to the phone number registered in the system.
- If the customer holds a previous license, they must submit copies of both the front and back of the license.
- The Driving Institute will contact the customer to arrange the required training package.
- The customer pays the necessary fees at the Institute to complete the service process and commence training.
- The customer receives a link via SMS and enters the OTP to sign the electronic contract through the RTA website.
- The customer must undergo an eye test at an Eye Test Centre accredited by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and authorized by the RTA.
- The customer receives the digital learning permit via SMS and email to begin the training.
- After completing the training requirements for each stage, the customer schedules the necessary test date (Knowledge, Yard, or Road).
- If the customer has a previous non-exchangeable license, they can take the Golden Chance for the Road Test, which does not require training hours and is available only once.
- If the customer fails the Road Test, they will need to complete additional training hours, excluding the theory part, based on their prior experience.
- At the institute: The customer pays the fees and receives the printed licence.

Conditions related to the Eye Test

For holders of visas issued in other emirates
- The customer must be present in person.
- The customer must be medically fit.
- The customer agrees to the terms and conditions when signing the training agreement and submitting the application through the DLS system.
- The training file is suspended if the customer doesn't take one of RTA tests (knowledge test, yard test, road test) within 6 months from his last appointment date.
- The customer must pass all the required tests to obtain the driving licence.
- Once the customer passes the Road test, he receives a temporary licence valid for 7 days through email.
- If less than two years have passed since the last appointment, the customer must reopen the learning file again to continue the application. If more than two years passed, the customer must apply again for the service.
- The customer must abide by the following conditions to apply for a learning permit:
Conditions related to the Eye Test
- The customer must pass the eye test according to the requested category at an eye test centre accredited by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and authorised by RTA.
- The eye test is valid for 2 years.
For the drivers of light and heavy buses
- Both eyes must be 6/6 with or without spectacles.
For colour blind customers
- The customer can apply for the permit on the condition of passing the eye test.
For holders of visas issued in other emirates
- The customer must not have a driving licence file in another emirate.
- The activity and name on the trade licence of the company’s Dubai branch must correspond.
- The customer is exempt from presenting a trade licence if he was a CEO of a company, institution, bank, public oil equipment company, university, or organisation.
Required documents
- Original Emirates ID
For residents holding visas from other emirates, please provide one of the following:
- A copy of the Ejari-approved tenancy agreement or the Title Deed as proof of residence.
- A copy of the company’s trade license for both the Dubai branch and the branch that issued the residency.
- A letter from the company confirming the customer's employment in Dubai.
- An official document verifying your current student status in Dubai.
For diplomats
- A copy of the diplomatic passport.
- The original Emirates ID, if available.
- A copy of the valid diplomatic card for embassies, consulates, or international organizations as a substitute for the Emirates ID.
- A copy of a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of issuance.
For People of Determination
- Copy of Transfer to the Doctor Certificate issued by Licensing Agency
- Copy of the valid passport
- Copy of the valid Marsoom
For an Emirati passport holder who is the son of an Emirati mother
- Copy of the valid passport
- A valid letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs confirming that the customer's mother is Emirati.
From holders of Golden Residency who have a driver's license from their home country.
- A copy of the customer's former valid driving license.
- Results of Knowledge test and Road test.
